Any comments? I've reduced the image sizes, but the page still loads pretty slowly. Any ideas why?
Any other comments?
Thanks,

KompoZer will scale the photo to fit the area specified, but this is not the same as resizing a photo. You will need to resize your pictures in an external photo editor. Your header photo is over 200 kb. Resizing it to the size that you are actually using should bring it down to the 50 kb range. The green fruit is your real killer though. That file is nearly 900 kb and probably only needs to be around 20 kb at a maximum.
If you right click on an image on a web page and select properties you can find some basic information regarding that image. The relevant lines here are:
1600px × 1200px (scaled to 265px × 199px)
877.36 KB (898418 bytes)
You want to resize the photo in an external editor to the size to which it is scaled. Leave the name the same and upload it to the server. It will probably ask if you wish to replace the existing file. Say 'yes, please' and the next time you open your page things will be much better. |

| IrfanView for Windows and ImageWell for Mac are both excellent at resizing photos for you. They both have many other features and, although not open source like KompoZer, are free. |

Thanks for the help! I've made the files smaller by reducing the quality, but just realized it is the size that you are refferring to. I will work on getting those programs. However, do you note that it is the background that is taking forever to load, and not the header and other picts?
Thanks again,

On opening the page the browser calls for all the images. There is a limit to the bandwidth that is available, so the large image files could have an effect on the overall load speed.
How large is the background image file and what format is it? If it is not a .gif it can be converted to .gif format to reduce the file size. |

Your background image is absolutely huge, as has been mentioned above.
Start by making the following changes.
Set the background color of the page to #287dcd - that'd the main color in your huge image. Not the #3366ff it currently is set at.
Next cut up your background image , so that you get the strip across the top that contains the trees and the brown bit, save it as a .gif and, since you have unfortunately used a tables for the layout, make another row just below the menu and stick the strip of trees in there.
Now tightly cut out JUST the first pair of (equally huge) black trees that repeats, save that as a .gif , and set that as your background image to repeat vertically. You page will now load about 10 - 15 times fast.
Now to give your self a bit of a shock, do a search on "the eight second rule Zona Research" and read several things about it.
Then add the size of your background image to the surfboard image and divide by six to get the typical download time on a dial-up connection. _________________ www.sky-web.net

Thanks for the help! I downloaded IrfanView and have been resizing some of the images. Will upload them soon.
Dr. John, I'm not sure what I did with the tables that you're talking about, but if you can refer me to a better way to make a website, let me know. I'll be happy to change it.
Thanks,
